Continuing Education

As an agency we are dedicated to providing continuing education to our nannies. This cause is very near and dear to Jenny's heart. As a nanny for many years herself was never offered continuing education and always felt like that is something that could have contributed to her knowledge of the field and helped her nanny portfolio.
Jenny and Amy built these classes to...
Amy and Jenny have brought their experience together to build the Basic Foundation Series. Their desire to have every Heartland Nanny work toward an Elite Nanny Certification and be the best in the business is the driving force behind these classes. They are passionate about every child being in an environment where they are loved, nurtured, allowed to grow, learn, and fly.
Introduction to Nannying
Module 1: Building Positive Relationships with Families-
In this class we discuss what relationships nannies navigate. We discuss what best practice, minimum standard, and ethics look like within the nanny role and how to aim towards ensuring they are doing best practice every day. We go over ways to communicate with families such as daily briefing at the beginning and end of day, apps, and other ideas. Navigating challenges is also a topic that is covered in this class to ensure the best start. In this first class of the series building positive bonds, boundaries, professional environments, clear expectations, and what does success look like.
Module 2: Building Positive Relationships with Children-
Where the first class focuses on the family and environment this class is all about the children. This class focuses on what the nanny can do to give individualized attention and personalized care in their relationships with the children. We focus on the different developmental stages of children and how to build trust, actively listen, and use empathy.
Engaging in play and shared activities is a big part of establishing positive relationships with the children. This class focuses on respect, collaboration, consistency, predictability, emotional availability, and support. Our goal is for every nanny to leave the class being able to build the relationship with patience, empathy, and understanding.
Module 3: Activities, Ages, Stages, and More-
Choices and boundaries is the basis of this class. Making sure that nannies are able to plan their day with age appropriate schedules and expectations for the day is our goal. We go through the schemas of play and development, ages and stages questionnaires, and how to set up the environment for success.
For each age and developmental level we give suggestions on what to do with the child and during down time when the children are resting. Ideas of places to go, and how to pack the ULTIMATE NANNY BAG!!
Module 4: Menus, Outings, and Physical Activities-
In this class all nannies participate in extensive meal planning and are given lots of meal planning tools. We talk about food allergies and sensitivities as well as following the parent’s lead in introducing new foods. We even discuss picky eaters and ways to expand their pallet.
Outings are a big part of this class with ideas of where to go, what to bring (The ULTIMATE NANNY BAG is explained again in this class,) and what to expect for each age group. We give information on where to find events that the children may learn or be a part of larger group play for socialization.
Finally we give ideas for large and small motor play indoors and outdoors for when we are not able to go out and about.
Module 6: Love and Logic (adapted) Class-
In this final class of the series we dive into making the relationships count, parenting and caregiving styles, what to do if a child doesn’t know expectations, and effective teaching techniques.
We discuss what responsible children look like and what are some of the underlying messages that we could be saying when we talk to the children. We talk about when to step in and when to stay out of kids problems, the uh-oh song, enforceable statements, one liners, love and logic rules, and SO MUCH MORE.
